About TESCO — Tribal Areas Electricity Supply Company
Tribal Areas Electricity Supply Company (TESCO) supplies electricity to approximately 0.8 million consumers across Pakistan's Merged Tribal Districts — the seven districts that were formerly known as FATA (Federally Administered Tribal Areas) and were merged into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in 2018 following the 25th Constitutional Amendment. TESCO covers: Khyber (including Landi Kotal and Torkham border), Kurram (Parachinar), North Waziristan (Miranshah), South Waziristan (Wana), Bajaur (Khar), Mohmand, and Orakzai.
TESCO was established in 1981 specifically to distribute electricity in the tribal belt when it was still FATA under federal direct governance. Following the 2018 merger with KPK, TESCO remained the designated electricity supplier for these districts while the administrative and governance integration continues. TESCO is operationally separate from PESCO, which supplies settled KPK districts. If you live in Peshawar, Mardan, Swat, or Abbottabad, check the PESCO bill page — those are PESCO areas.
TESCO's service area spans some of Pakistan's most strategically significant and historically complex terrain — the Khyber Pass connecting Pakistan to Afghanistan, the Waziristan highlands, and the Bajaur mountain valleys. Security improvements in these areas following the end of major military operations have allowed TESCO to significantly expand its network and improve supply reliability compared to a decade ago.
To check your TESCO bill online, enter your 14-digit TESCO reference number in the bill checker above. TESCO uses the same PITC server system as all other WAPDA DISCOs. Your reference number is printed at the top of every TESCO electricity bill. For SMS bill checking, send your reference number to 8334. TESCO also operates a complaint SMS service — send your complaint to 8118 mentioning your reference number.
Important distinction: TESCO's winter peak hours are 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM — one hour earlier than most other DISCOs. This matches PESCO's winter timing and reflects the earlier winter darkness in KPK's mountainous terrain. Always keep this in mind when scheduling heavy appliance usage in winter months.

How to Check TESCO Bill Online — Step by Step
Follow these steps to check your TESCO electricity bill online. The entire process takes under 60 seconds.
Find your 14-digit TESCO reference number — printed in bold at the top of your TESCO electricity bill, on the right side near your consumer name and address.
Open the bill checker tool at the top of this page. The Reference Number tab is active by default.
Enter your 14-digit TESCO reference number in the input field. Enter numbers only — no spaces, dashes, or letters.
Click the green Check Bill button. The system connects to the official PITC server (bill.pitc.com.pk/tescobill) and retrieves your latest bill.
Your complete TESCO bill appears within 3 to 5 seconds — showing total amount due, due date, units consumed, meter readings, and all charges including FPA and surcharges.
Click Download PDF to save your TESCO bill as a PDF, or click Print to immediately get a paper duplicate copy.
How to Read Your TESCO Bill
Every section of your TESCO electricity bill has a specific meaning. Understanding these sections helps you verify accuracy and dispute errors.
Your TESCO reference number (14 digits) is permanent — save it in your phone so you can check your bill every month without needing a paper copy. In remote tribal areas, paper bills often do not arrive regularly.
TESCO winter peak hours start at 5:00 PM — one full hour earlier than most other DISCOs. Avoid running heavy appliances between 5 PM and 9 PM in November to March to reduce your bill.
TESCO and PESCO are different companies. TESCO covers the seven Merged Tribal Districts. PESCO covers the settled KPK districts. Your bill heading clearly states which company supplies you.
The Merged Tribal Districts have seen significant increase in electricity connections since 2018 merger with KPK. New connections in these areas use the same 14-digit reference number format as all other WAPDA DISCOs.
If your bill shows Estimated instead of Actual, request an actual reading by calling 118 or 091-9212964. Estimated bills in remote areas can cause large catch-up charges the following month.
Check the Category field — D-Protected (≤200 units average) gives subsidized rates. D-Unprotected means full slab rates. If you use under 200 units but show Unprotected, visit your nearest TESCO office to correct this.
TESCO Bill Charges Explained March 2026
Your TESCO electricity bill includes several charges beyond the base unit rate. Here is what each charge means and how it is calculated.
| Charge | Amount / Rate | What It Is |
|---|---|---|
| Energy Charges | Rs 13.48 – Rs 48.84/unit | Base charge per kWh unit consumed. Rate depends on your slab (Protected or Unprotected). |
| Fuel Price Adjustment (FPA) | Rs 0.48/unit (Mar 2026) | Monthly variable charge set by NEPRA based on fuel cost changes. Rises when fuel is expensive. |
| General Sales Tax (GST) | 17% of consumption charges | Federal government tax applied to your electricity charges. Protected consumers under 200 units pay reduced GST. |
| FC (Fixed Charge) Surcharge | Rs 0.43/unit | Funds capacity payments to power plants. Applied to all consumers regardless of category. |
| Electricity Duty (ED) | 1.5% of consumption charges | Provincial government duty on electricity consumption. Applies to all domestic connections. |
| NJ (Neelum Jhelum) Surcharge | Rs 0.10/unit | Funds the Neelum-Jhelum Hydro Power Project debt repayment. Applies per unit consumed. |
| TV License Fee | Rs 35/month | Government fee added to all domestic bills. Mandatory regardless of whether you own a TV. |
| Meter Rent | Rs 10–1,000+/month | Monthly rental for the electricity meter at your premises. Amount varies by meter type and connection category. |
| Late Payment Surcharge | 10% of overdue amount | Applied if you pay after the due date + 7-day grace period. Avoid this by paying on time. |
| PTV Fee | Included in TV Fee | Pakistan Television fee collected through electricity bills. Part of the Rs 35 TV License charge. |
TESCO Electricity Tariff Rates March 2026
Pakistan uses a slab-based tariff. The more units you consume, the higher the rate per unit. Staying in a lower slab saves significant money every month.
Rates approved by NEPRA. Subject to change each quarter. Last updated: March 2026.
| Units Consumed | Rate per Unit (PKR) | Consumer Category |
|---|---|---|
| 1 – 100 units | Rs 13.48 | Protected |
| 101 – 200 units | Rs 18.58 | Protected |
| 1 – 100 units | Rs 23.59 | Unprotected |
| 101 – 200 units | Rs 30.07 | Unprotected |
| 201 – 300 units | Rs 34.26 | Unprotected |
| 301 – 400 units | Rs 39.15 | Unprotected |
| 401 – 500 units | Rs 41.36 | Unprotected |
| 501 – 600 units | Rs 42.78 | Unprotected |
| 601 – 700 units | Rs 43.92 | Unprotected |
| Above 700 units | Rs 48.84 | Unprotected |
✅ Protected Consumer
Average monthly consumption of 200 units or less over the last 6 months. Pays subsidized rates. One high-consumption month does not immediately remove Protected status.
⚡ Unprotected Consumer
Average consumption exceeds 200 units per month. Pays commercial rates from the very first unit consumed. Reducing average consumption below 200 units can restore Protected status.
TESCO Peak Hours 2026

Winter Peak Hours

Off-Peak Hours (Save Money)
How to Reduce Your TESCO Bill
These practical steps consistently reduce electricity bills for Peshawar households. Implementing all of them can cut your monthly bill by 20 to 40%.
Tribal area winters are severe — Kurram (Parachinar) and Bajaur can be extremely cold. Avoid electric heaters; use traditional heating methods like wood stoves and gas heaters where available. Electric heaters add 300–600 units monthly in winter.
Khyber district (Landi Kotal area at 1,000m+ elevation) has cool summers — most consumers can avoid AC entirely during summer, maintaining Protected status year-round.
South Waziristan and North Waziristan highlands have excellent solar potential. Net metering applications under NEPRA's prosumer regulations are available to TESCO consumers. Contact TESCO's Peshawar head office for net metering applications.
Use LED lighting in homes and shops. A shop in Khar (Bajaur) with 10 fluorescent lights (40W each) running 10 hours daily consumes 40 kWh per day. Replacing with LED (10W each) cuts that to 10 kWh — a saving of Rs 30,000+ per year at unprotected rates.
Check your TESCO bill every month using this online tool. In many tribal area locations, meter reading access is irregular — billing errors are more common than in settled urban areas. Early detection prevents large arrear accumulations.
